(一)内容要点的完整性
内容要点要全，这是高考书面表达的首要要求。阅卷时，评分老师首先根据考生的内容要点初步确定考生作文的档次。缺少一个要点，往往要降低一个档次。也就意味着减少5分。所以书面表达要上档次，要点齐全是关键。要点提纲式书面表达以及表格式书面表达一般不会遗漏要点，而看图写话，和提示图、示意图之类的书面表达容易遗漏要点。所以考生一定要认真审题，仔细观察，合理想象，正确理解。保证不漏掉要点。
(二)语言表达的多样性
现在的《考试说明》评分标准强调使用语法结构的数量和复杂性，鼓励考生尽量使用较复杂的结构或词语，并且对由此所产生的错误采取了宽容态度。
所以学生在写作中即要使用简单句，也要学会使用结构复杂的复合句、并列句;要讲究措词，既要有普通词语，也要使用高级词汇。
(三)语言交际的得体性
培养跨文化交际能力是英语教学的终极目标。跨文化交际的过程既涉及语言的规约，也涉及文化的规约。交际错误因此也分为两种：一是语言错误，二是文化错误。现代外语教学观点认为文化错误往往比语言更严重。因为在与外国人的交往过程中，他们一般对语言错误持宽容态度，而对文化错误却常常耿耿于怀，因为它不合乎他们的交际规则。在其文化习俗上不可接受。在其价值体系上发生冲突。高考评分标准强调了语言交际的得体性，是适应了时代发展的需要。

(四)语篇结构的连贯性
评分标准把衔接和连贯是作为核心标准来要求的。之所以如此强调衔接和连贯，是因为这是构成语篇的最基本的条件。语句间的连接成份是衡量衔接与连贯很重要的标准之一。构成语篇连接成份的过渡词语，被称为“篇章纽带”，其语篇衔接作用是不言而喻的，学生要学会正确恰当地使用这些表示逻辑关系的关联词语，使文章前后连贯，结构紧凑，过渡自然。如：表示顺序的：first, then, finally ;表示时间的：in the past ,now, at present, in the future;表示转折的：but, however; on the contrary, in the mean while, at the same time, instead ,unfortunately;表示递进的：What's more, besides, even;moreover 表示并列的：as well as ,both …and, neither…nor, either…or ,some…some…;表示因果关系的：so, therefore ;表示列举的：for example, for instance, such as ;表示总结的：in a word ,in all ,in short;表示对比的：on one hand, on the other hand, while ;表示程度的：first of all, above all, again and again等。
文章的结构也要体现内在的逻辑性，避免杂乱无章。可以按时间、空间、结构及逻辑顺序等依次地写，这样才能使文章环环相扣，上下衔接，层次清晰，逻辑分明，达到形式和内容的完整统一。
