雅思考试一共分为四个板块,分别为雅思听力、雅思口语、雅思阅读与雅思写作。而在这四个板块中,最令中国考生纠结与头痛的莫过于雅思口语了。当然,雅思口语也是四个板块中同学们平均得分最低的。

那么,同学们或者教英语的老师们有反思过为什么中国考生的雅思口语成绩那么低吗?当然如若同学们很简单的认为仅仅是英语是第二语言,所以口语差是理所应当,雅思口语考不好也是情理之中,那么这个问题也就无从探讨了。

当然,也会有部分同学认为探讨这个问题并没有什么必要,毕竟大多数同学都不准备考雅思,而且就算准备考雅思的同学,也是抱着为了出国,不得不通过雅思考试,才临时抱佛脚,准备起雅思口语考试,只要成绩拿到手,那么就要和雅思说“分手”,更别说“雅思口语”了。

这是很多准备考雅思或者是已经考完雅思同学的心态,而恰恰是这种心态,我们也可以称之为“应试心态”才是导致中国考生雅思口语成绩低的罪魁祸首。

什么“应试心态”呢?简而言之,就是所有的准备与努力都是为了应付考试,至于学习知识,提高能力等等,根本不在同学们的考虑范围内。这种心态难道仅仅只存在准备雅思考试中吗?当然不是,君不见,中国众多的大学生期末考试时的“突击”以及准备英语四六级考试时的“刷题”都是这一心态的反映。

重新回到我们的主题来:为什么说应试心态是中国考生雅思口语成绩低的罪魁祸首呢?

对于这个问题,我们刚好可以从雅思口语的四个评分标准(fluency,流利; vocabulary,词汇; grammar,语法;pronunciation,发音)来说明。

词汇(vocabulary)

中国考生在准备雅思口语的时候,很多同学都抱着这样一种莫名的心态:即如果想要拿高分,就要用那些看起来很“高级”的词汇。但是事实上,这恰恰是应试心态的一种体现。哪位同学平时闲着无聊回去了解那些高级词汇的真正用法呢?只不过为了应付雅思考试所以临时学几个看起来“高级”的词,然后期望用到口语考试中,让考官眼前一亮。

但事实上,同学们所临时学来的“高级”词汇往往会让自己的分数偏低,为什么呢?换用一下汉语思维,假如同学被问到为什么喜欢冬天,同学们很朴实的答因为冬天可以窝在家里,然后开始间接的用上“银装素裹”、“玉树琼花”词语描绘雪花的漂亮,同学们可以自我反思一下,是不是感觉很不协调?而这也是雅思考官的感受,更别说,有些同学语法错乱,还用上这些“高级”词,更加令考官断定同学口语很差。

语法(grammar)

语法的话不用多提,应试心态尽在此中。很多同学为什么在考试之前就要多背一些标准的模板呢?正是因为深知自己的英语语法是什么水平,所以只能借助那些网上已经被其他人检验过的模板,临时的苦记硬背,才能应付这一场雅思口语考试。如果在考场上遇到考官问一些从来没有准备过的口语题目,仅凭着同学们平日的语法积累,同学们的心态肯定是“炸裂”的。

发音(pronunciation)

发音和应试心态有关,更是正常不过。想一想同学们学了十几年的英语,但是基本上都是纸笔考试,一直以来老师对同学们的发音都没有要求,当然因为没有这相关的考试,同学们对自己的英语口音也没啥要求,所以在准备雅思口语考试的时候,同学们把大部分的时间都花在了背语料上,至于发音,估计同学们更加没有时间是考虑。从始至终,同学们都是抱着“应试心态”准备雅思口语考试的,而在发音这一块,雅思口语考试会让同学们在栽一个不小的跟头。

流利(fluency)

流利包含两个方面,一个是单个句子之间流利,而这需要同学们对略读、连读、失爆等技巧有所掌握;二是句子与句子之间流利,这个对同学们的要求更高,同学们如果能确保一个section完整的回答是流利的,那基本上能够说明同学们平时也在英语上下了功夫,也就是没有抱着“应试心态”。如果同学们仅仅是抱着应试心态准备雅思口语考试的话,相信很多同学都是磕磕绊绊的考完全场,毕竟从来没有接受过这样的训练,太难为人了!

归根结底,同学们如果想要拿到雅思口语高分或者单纯的希望提高自己的英语口语的话,应试心态真的不能有。它会从方方面面影响着同学,让同学无法真正地把学习落到实处,只希望以最小的努力获取最大的成功。但是这可能吗?这是一个值得深思的问题。

No. I don’t think it can do anything for me. I believe a person has to work out his own life. I am planning to do this as well as I can.

Not really. I belong to the new generation who do not attach too much significance to our names. Names were important to the older generation as they are of the opinion that it will determine your destiny to some extent. However, I personally believe that I myself will determine my destiny no matter what my name is. I will do this by acquiring good qualifications and by working hard.

For example, he looks at the political situation over the past fifty years, which was based on racial discrimination and had become known to the world as ‘apartheid’.

No, I never read newspaper. I watch TV if I want to know what is happening in China and the world. It takes too much time to read newspapers. For example, the news on TV is short and to the point, and that’s all I want to know.

No. I have used the Internet these days to know what’s happening in China and the world. Websites like CNN contain all the latest news on world events. By the Internet I can do some research right away, and thus gain a broader perspective on the subject at hand.
